Altec Lansing® Professional Ceiling Speakers Bring Music, Worship to Life for South Carolina Congregation
12" Duplex® Speaker from Recently-Revived Pro Audio Division Perfect for High-Energy Praise Worship; Installer Hames Music Cites Full-Range Capability at High Volume
LANDRUM, SC - Sept. 18, 2002 - With over 1,350 sound systems in place from Virginia to Florida, Hames Music is recognized as one of the premier system installation companies in the Southeastern U.S. Key to the company's success has been its uncompromising standards which, as often in the past, led it to a custom solution for its new sound system assignment at Bible Baptist Church in Landrum, SC.
"Bible Baptist was building a new, more contemporary auditorium with fan-shaped seating," said Kelly Carter, Vice President of Systems Design for Hames Music. "Like many churches today, the church was making a greater dedication to praise worship, featuring an acoustical band with seven to eight guitars and other live instruments. The church clearly needed a tailor-made solution that could handle demanding, high-energy instrumentals as well as voice, and without creating dead spots in the sides or corners of the room."
Using EASE® (Enhanced Acoustic Simulator for Engineers) software, Carter and his team designed and specified a 280-degree custom speaker enclosure that would accommodate the unusual width of the 400-seat sanctuary. Next, the Hames Music team contacted a well-known custom speaker manufacturer to have speakers specially built for the system.
"We tested the speakers as soon as they arrived. We were sorely disappointed as they did not deliver the response we requested," said Carter. "As soon as we found out we could get Altec Lansing CD912's, however, we sent the original speakers back and placed an order with Altec Lansing Professional."
The signature product of Altec Lansing's recently-announced Professional division, CD-912-8A High Fidelity Duplex® speakers are designed for any commercial or institutional setting requiring exceptional response across a wide range of frequencies. Featuring 125-watt EIA/500W peak power handling and point-source design, the 12-inch/300mm loudspeaker consists of a moisture-resistant cone woofer, a broad dispersion dome tweeter with heat resistant voice coils, and a die-cast corrosion-resistant speaker frame. A 1,500 Hz second order crossover provides smooth, high fidelity transitions.
"Through the CD912, Altec Lansing Professional is carrying on the Altec Lansing reputation for systems quality that has become legendary over the past 75 years," said Duke Ducoff, Director of Business Development for Altec Lansing Professional. "Altec Lansing CD912 Duplex speakers are the most popular hotel ballroom ceiling speakers in the world, primarily due to their exceptional versatility and fidelity. As houses of worship find a greater need for both amplified acoustic music and voice, the CD912 is becoming increasingly popular in this environment as well."
Pairing its custom, three-speaker enclosure with a 24-channel mixer, QSC power amplifier, Electro-Voice equalizers and two monitor mixers onstage, Carter and the Hames Music installation team completed its work at Bible Baptist Church in early July of this year. "The full range of the CD912's are exceptional, especially in high power/high volume conditions," Carter notes. "We've been impressed by the unparalleled disbursement pattern of the speakers, each essentially doing the work of two."
"The Bible Baptist installation has given the congregation a premier sound system with a good low end and crystal highs," said Byron Hames, Vice President and co-owner of Hames Music. "Response is excellent in all areas of the auditorium. This is a quality solution that meets the changing needs of contemporary worship, built around a great performance speaker. Based on our past experiences, I believe it's a durable system that will serve the church for years to come."
