Altec Lansing’s New SLS6221 Is the Industry’s First Dedicated Flat Panel Display Speaker System

LAS VEGAS CONVENTION CENTER, NSCA – (March 19, 2004) – Altec Lansing Professional, the pro audio division of leading speaker manufacturer Altec Lansing Technologies, announced its first product in Altec’s new SOLUTION series, a 2.1 speaker system for flat panel displays.

This new speaker system is the product of a unique collaboration between Altec Lansing Professional and Electrograph, the country’s largest distributor of flat panel displays. These two companies came together in this venture to fulfill the industry’s growing demand for a “one size fits all” FPD speaker system that delivers high quality audio reproduction.

According to John Sexton, Vice President of Sales for Altec Professional, “From our discussions with Joe Blacker, Principal of Audio Associates, we learned that the flat panel display manufacturers were treating the sounds system as an accessory, rather than as a high performance enhancement of the A/V experience. It also became clear that the video distributors were finding it difficult to stock so many SKUs for each manufacturer and size display.” Thus, the creation of Altec Lansing’s model SLS6221, the 2.1 speaker “one size fits all” solution for flat panel displays.

The SLS6221 model is the world’s smallest active line array. The two satellites feature six 1” tri-amplified micro-drivers that provide consistent 40° - 60° vertical coverage pattern starting at 2kHz. Each satellite is magnetically shielded, so that they can be used with standard CRT displays.

The amplifiers and DSP for this powered audio system are contained in the subwoofer, which houses a 6.5”/165mm long-throw woofer. A wired remote control and wireless IR remote complete the package.

The 2.1 speakers not only offer superior sound quality and technology, but additionally, the SLS6221 speakers are designed to compliment display designs with a silver and charcoal gray color scheme. Moreover, for the customer’s convenience, the custom-mounting bracket attaches the satellites to the center of most flat panel displays and a mounting base is included for tabletop use along with keyhole mounting points and a _-20 treaded insert to accommodate wall and ceiling mounting hardware.
