Altec Lansing Updates Its CD912
Twelve-Inch Duplex® Ceiling Speaker
The New CD912-8B Delivers A Smooth Frequency Response And Tight Coverage
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — July 6, 2004 — When Altec Lansing Technologies, Inc. launched its Professional Division in February, 2001, one of the first products it brought to market was the CD912-8A, a 12” Duplex® ceiling speaker. Altec’s new CD912-8B builds on the company’s tradition of supplying the industry’s best selling twelve-inch/300mm ceiling speakers for high ceiling applications.
“The Altec Lansing model 920 ceiling speaker was the most popular hotel ballroom speaker in the world,” said John Sexton, Altec’s Vice President of Sales. “The CD912 was developed to enhance the high fidelity performance of the speaker by improving the unit’s midband output. The result is a 12” Duplex® design that provides great speech intelligibility and quality music reproduction from a high ceiling. At a broadband sensitivity rating of 100 dB SPL @ 1W/1m, the CD912-8B allows the contractor to downsize the power amplifier on each zone of loudspeakers without sacrificing output. As a result, the CD912 has quickly established itself as the “default” twelve-inch Duplex® ceiling speaker in our industry.”
The CD912-8B is a great choice for high ceilings because the coverage pattern narrows to 70° x 70° at 2,000 Hz. “On voice announcements, the CD912-8B sounds like a high frequency horn and driver combo at a distance of up to sixty feet,” explained Gary Jones, Altec Lansing’s Marketing Manager. “This is due to the tight coverage pattern at the intelligibility frequency. In a high ceiling, the CD912 punches the voice program material down into the room. This is confirmed when you look at the CD912-8B in EASE®.”
Complementing the CD912-8B are Altec’s premium, low-insertion loss 16W, 32W and new 100W 70V / 100V transformers. The company also offers 2.0 cubic foot and 3.0 cubic foot square metal enclosures with a matching square grille.
“The CD912-8B is designed to work in as small as a two cubic foot enclosure,” added Jones. “It doesn’t need a ported enclosure to reach the rated low frequency limit of 75 Hz. This smaller enclosure lowers the installation cost for the contractor.”
The CD912-8B will begin shipping in July. To download the data sheet on the new CD912-8B, visit www.altecpro.com. Authorized EASE® measurements are also posted to the website.
