Altec Lansing Announces New SLS5220
2.0 Powered Audio System

LAS VEGAS, NV - INFOCOMM BOOTH # 3181- June 8, 2005 — Altec Lansing Professional today announced the debut of a 2.0 speaker system that solves a common challenge facing systems integrators: the need for compact, high fidelity, full-range audio in unusual places. With the new SLS5220 2.0 Powered Audio System, integrators can put a powerful, full frequency audio system virtually anywhere.

Many times, the customer needs audio but doesn’t have space (or budget) for a full-blown component-based audio system. The SLS5220 is designed to install in a wide range of locations. The system not only ships with ball-joint wall mounts and plasma screen mounts, but also is at home on a shelf or table top.

This compact speaker system (only 2.5”/63.5mm deep) features a low frequency enhancement circuit that adds an extra octave of audio performance. Maximum output from the system is 99 dB SPL @ 1m. Frequency response is rated at 70 Hz – 20 kHz @ - 10 dB.

Each speaker has a molded high impact plastic front cover with metal perforated grilles covering the 1” tweeter and 3” woofer. A disguised pneumatic door on the master speaker hides the on/off, bass & treble controls. A subtle blue power light on the master speaker gives you a visible indication that all is well. The SLS5220 is magnetically shielded to allow it to work in proximity to CRTs. The universal AC power supply is rated for worldwide use from 100 V – 240V, 50 Hz to 60 Hz.

“The contractor simply takes the stereo RCA output of their plasma screen, CRT, background music source, CD player or MP3 player and plugs it into the SLS5220

master speaker. It doesn’t get any easier than that,” explains John Sexton, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Altec Lansing. “We expect the SLS5220 to be installed in a wide variety of corporate, retail, club, restaurant and monitoring applications. Eliminating the power amplifier from the sound system saves both space and dollars.”

The SLS5220 2.0 powered speaker system joins the SLS6221 2.1 model as the industry’s first high fidelity powered audio systems designed specifically for both surface-mount and plasma screen applications.
