New Altec Lansing DX1012-8A Flyable Speaker System
Perfects Duplex® Technology
Unique Point-Source Coaxial Design is Ideal Choice For
Voice or Music in Both Front-of-House and Floor Monitor Applications
LAS VEGAS, NV - INFOCOMM BOOTH # 3181- June 8, 2005 — Altec Lansing Professional today announced the debut of its new DX1012-8A 12” Duplex® flyable speaker system—the culmination of years of refinement of Altec Lansing’s exclusive Duplex technology. Using the same single magnet structure made popular in Altec’s DE6412 and DE9412 speaker systems, the DX1012-8A mates a 1.4” large format high frequency compression driver to a high efficiency 12” woofer on the front of the motor. The merger creates an exceptional solution for installations needing high fidelity music playback and crisp speech intelligibility.
According to Gary Jones, Altec’s Applications and Training Manager, the key to the performance of the DX1012 lies not only in its Duplex® ENGINE, but also in its passive crossover network. “We have chosen a high fidelity 1,500 Hz crossover network to insure that we get a smooth transition from the BIG BOY compression driver to the high efficiency woofer, and to make sure that the intelligibility frequencies are in the compression driver and 90° conical horn,” Jones notes. “We firmly believe that a robust high frequency driver is the most accurate reproducer of the human voice.”
Two grab points have been subtly routed into the top and bottom of the curved front. The five sided cabinet utilizes two 45° draft angles, making the DX1012 an excellent
choice as a high output floor monitor in addition to its primary use as a flown front-of-house speaker system. Frequency response of the DX1012 is 70 Hz – 16 kHz @ -3 dB. Sensitivity is 97 dB SPL @ 1W/1m. Power handling is 300W continuous; 1,200W peak.
The DX1012-8A is offered in two finishes – charcoal gray (“G” model) or white (“W” model) with matching cloth covered perforated steel grille. Cabinet construction is 13-ply poplar with twelve reinforced suspension points. The five-sided compact cabinet is only 22” high x 18.75” wide x 15” deep. The curved front and grille make it an attractive choice for churches and auditoriums.
